In defense of short mobile games

In defense of short mobile games

June 6, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

We're trained to value length. More hours, more content, more value. But some of my favorite mobile experiences barely last an afternoon.

Hollow Lantern is maybe four hours long, and I remember almost every scene. Compare that to some 40-hour grinds I've completely forgotten.

Short games can afford to be dense. Every moment is crafted because there's no filler to hide behind. That focus sticks with you.

So don't skip a game just because it's brief. Sometimes brevity is exactly what makes it worth playing.
